J3/4 Competition

YEAR 3/4 COMPETITION

Our Year 3/4 competition is a progression from our Year 1/2 competition to extend skills and game play. The competition is an interclub competition run by the YMCC Hockey Club at Alderbury Field, Perry Lakes on Saturday mornings for school based teams as well as YMCC teams. Teams are also invited from other local clubs.

The teams play on 3/4 size field with 9 players on the field at a time (no goalkeeper). The games are two halves of 20 minutes each with a 5 minute break at half time. No score is kept for the games and there is not a ladder.

Players will need a hockey stick, mouthguard and shin pads. Normal running shoes are suitable.

Games are played at 9.00am and 10.00am.

TEAMS

Teams are typically mixed boys and girls formed from children registered to play with YMCC.

Where preferred, teams may be school based, or mixed school YMCC teams. Teams will typically wear YMCC uniform, or if preferred a school uniform.

Teams must appoint a team coach and manager who will liaise with the J3/4 Coordinator (Julie Gibson). YMCC can offer assistance in coaching, with training plans if required. Each team will receive at the beginning of the season a bag of balls, bibs and cones. These must be returned to the J 3/4 Coordinator at the end of the season.

SCHOOL LIAISON/COORDINATORS

Ideally, each school entering a team in the Year 3/4 competition has a school liaison/coordinator.

This role is to help disseminate information, help identify which kids want to be part of a school based team, help the team appoint a coach and manager, assist players to register through the YMCC Hockey Club website, assist parent with queries, and generally liaise with the YMCC subjunior coordinator.

SUBJUNIOR TEAM TRAINING

The default training for YMCC J3/4 Teams is Wednesday, 4:00pm at Perry Lakes, (following the group sessions and school holidays). Individual teams, however, are welcome to select a time, day, or location which suits them and start as soon as they like. Typically many of the school based teams will train at their school, before or after the school day, however they are welcome at Perry Lakes too.

In cases where team training time does not suit, children are always welcome to come and train with one of the mixed YMCC teams. Check with the Year 1/2 Year group coordinator for info on when these teams are training.

SEASON

The season will commence Saturday 9th May 2025 and continue through to Saturday 29th August, with a break over the Long Weekend (30st May) and School Holidays (4th to 18th July).

The YMCC Year 1/2 teams have a wind up on Saturday to be determined.

RULES

The J 3/4 rules are modified to suit the age group and ensure safety. The coach may be on the field (but out of the way of the play) during the game providing support.

The fees for the 2026 season are included her e.

In order to assist with the formation of teams for our subjunior competitions, we ask that you register by Sunday 28th March. However, we will still endeavour to fit children into teams where possible up to the end of April.
